Mid Cheshire Hospitals improves document turnaround times with SRC

London, 6 April 2010 - SRC, provider of document creation and clinical information systems, today announced that they have deployed the WinScribe digital dictation solution across the ENT, General Surgery and Urology departments at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT).

Results from the initial deployment have been positive, with the Trust reporting improved typing turnaround for all urgent dictations despite increased workloads. The WinScribe based digital dictation solution is now being deployed to 400 users across the entire Trust.

Speaking about the new solution, Diane Nolder, Senior IT Projects Manager at MCHFT said: “The Trust went through a formal evaluation process and SRC demonstrated that they had a flexible solution, and could best meet the Trust’s business and technical requirements. Of particular benefit was SRC’s proven integrated speech recognition capability and the ease with which the solution can be linked into our PAS system. The dictation solution will be integrated to our patient management and electronic document transfer systems to enable us to meet DH and CEPCT targets for discharge and outpatient clinic letters.”

The dictation solution is set up to enable authors to capture patient references using barcode technology and attach this to the dictation. This enables the appropriate templates to be pre-populated with information from the hospital patient administration system before transcription.

SRC will also be adding speech recognition functionality to the system in a number of the specialties in order to provide even greater opportunities for cost saving and productivity improvements.

Chris Hart, CEO at SRC said: “We are pleased to have won this contract and, more importantly, to be providing a solution that continuously helps the Trust improve patient care by reducing turn-around times and providing significant cost savings. The project at Mid Cheshire Hospitals uses a number of elements from the expanding SRC document creation solutions portfolio which now also incorporates electronic discharge summaries and document production systems.”

SRC’s solutions are used by more than 46 NHS Trusts and SRC have been awarded five Trust wide contracts in the North West Strategic Health Authority region, including Trafford Healthcare and University Hospitals of South Manchester.
