Dictation overview

The following information highlights how SRC’s dictation solution works when using a desktop and portable dictation device.

1. Dictation

To begin the document creation process the author dictates into the SRC dictation solution, which is based in one of two ways:

  • On a desktop dictation device, such as the Philips SpeechMike, directly into the dictation application. Once the dictation is complete the author simply clicks the ‘send’ button to automatically upload their dictation to the solution, which resides on a dedicated server (either on your organisations network or via SRC's managed server.
  • On a portable dictation device, such as the Olympus DS 5000 or Philips DPM9600. Once the dictation is completed the author automatically uploads their dictation to the server. Typically dictations are uploaded by placing the device into a docking station or using a USB cable.

Note: dictations can also be created and uploaded to the SRC solution using any of the following: Mobile or Landline telephones, Blackberry smartphones, PDAs or the Internet.

All of the dictations are stored in the sent folder within the author application of the solution and this provides the author with comprehensive information about how their dictations are progressing. For example, awaiting typist, being typed, with an outsourced transcription provider for typing, completed.
