SRC WinScribe digital dictation solution to bring cost saving platform to Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust

London, 15 April 2008 - Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust has chosen SRC, the market leader for healthcare digital dictation and speech recognition solutions, to roll out the innovative WinScribe digital dictation system in their Department of Cellular Pathology (formally Department of Histopathology and Cytopathology). The SRC WinScribe solution will provide cost savings to the Trust by streamlining document creation processes, enabling staff to increase productivity and create time critical patient documentation more efficiently.

The SRC WinScribe solution will be specifically customised for the department to allow doctors to dictate wirelessly in dissection rooms. In addition doctors will be able to set priority levels against dictations and instantly transfer dictations, using WinScribe’s advanced workflow system, to the relevant secretary or group of secretaries for rapid transcription and prioritisation of work.

The new dictation solution replaces hand written and tape based dictation methods. Poor audio quality of tape recordings and deciphering hand written reports, and the inability for secretaries to share tapes and work in groups will be addressed by the new digital system.

Before awarding SRC the contract, staff in the department evaluated other digital dictation suppliers. “The evaluation process showed that SRC were the only supplier capable of providing the required solution. They also demonstrated their proven experience of delivering departmental and Trust wide digital dictation solutions to NHS Trusts by inviting us to visit a number of Pathology departments. Being able to see a successful implementation of the wireless dictation solution we required was invaluable and a key part of the decision making process,” explains Lynette Bannister, manager/administrator in the department.

Chris Hart, CEO at SRC said: “We have developed and delivered a range of flexible document creation solutions that can be effectively customised and rapidly rolled out to the very varied NHS departments. This latest news is testament to this effort and we look forward to developing the partnership with Royal Free Hospital and helping them achieve cost savings and productivity improvements now and in the future.”

The deployment at Royal Free Hospital is the latest in the rapidly growing SRC WinScribe rollouts in Pathology departments across the NHS, including, Charing Cross and Hammersmith, East Kent Hospitals, Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals, East Sussex Hospitals and Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
