CfH seal of approval for SRC Electronic Discharge Summary Solution

London, 18 June 2010 - Underlining SRC’s commitment to delivering professional and open Clinical Information solutions, SRC and Bluewire Technologies have successfully presented the SRC e-Discharge Summary product, developed by Bluewire Technologies, for testing against NHS Connecting for Health’s InterOperability Toolkit (ITK) Discharge Summary standard.

The end-to-end test in March 2010 was witnessed and verified by representatives from NHS CfH as part of a Proof of Concept demonstration involving, in addition to the SRC e-Discharge Summary system, middleware and primary care systems supplied by PCTI and Orion Health. The proof of concept demonstrated:

  • Successful delivery of discharge summaries between hospitals and primary care systems in accordance with ITK standards.
  • Interoperability between acute, middleware and primary care supplier systems as part of an end-to-end solution.
  • How the solution can be rapidly and beneficially replicated across the NHS to provide economic electronic delivery of Discharge Summaries based upon an open standardised interface.

Chris Hart, CEO at SRC said: “Working in parallel with complementary healthcare IT suppliers, our development partner Bluewire Technologies has rapidly developed a fully integrated solution based upon the emerging ITK Discharge Summary standard. This now enables Trusts to electronically distribute patient discharge information securely and efficiently from hospital applications to third-party GP and primary care systems in an open standardised format. Already our electronic discharge summary solutions are helping Trusts across the UK to meet the DoH 24 hour targets, this new capability will facilitate the wider use of electronic delivery of documents in a format which is user friendly. We now look forward to working in partnership with PCTI and other suppliers to implement integrated systems utilising the ITK and enabling Acute Trusts and PCTs to both improve patient care and significantly reduce the cost of supplying accurate and timely discharge information.”

SRC’s Electronic Discharge Summary solution is designed and developed by Bluewire Technologies. Dr. Adam Towler, Managing Director at Bluewire Technologies said: “The ITK standard for discharge summaries is a significant development in joining up IT systems within different areas of the NHS. Accreditation reaffirms our position as a best in-class technology. We were also pleased to receive positive comments on some of the wider functionality of the toolkit regarding our CUI compliance and DM + D implementation for medicines management.”

Speaking about the Electronic Discharge Summary solution, Chris Hart, CEO at SRC commented: “The interface is clear and simple and the solution combines time saving features, such as the integrated DM+D medicine dictionary. The solution has also been developed to work across multiple platforms and to provide an easy integration with existing PAS and EPR systems.”

The SRC e-Discharge Solution is deployed at a number of NHS Trusts, including West Suffolk NHS Hospitals and Ealing NHS Trust, with further implementations underway.
