SRC WinScribe’s transparent workflow expertise key for Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust’s digital dictation solution

London, 03 December 2007 - Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust and SRC, the leading provider of healthcare digital dictation and speech recognition solutions, today announced the completion of the roll-out of the SRC WinScribe Digital Dictation solution to the entire Trust.

The initial results from the Neurology and Paediatrics departments show that the solution is already delivering the expected benefits and providing the Trust with a much more effective workflow. Rob Thompson, Assistant Director of Service Development at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trusts’ explains: “We no longer have issues with transferring tapes from author to secretary as the digital dictation system does this automatically for us, which saves time and money. We now have a transparent workflow process that delivers improved efficiencies for all users and which in turn benefits the patients and community we serve.”

Dartford and Gravesham is the latest in a long line of NHS Trusts that have replaced their tape based dictation system to take advantage of the benefits of the SRC Digital Dictation solution. According to the Trust the previous analogue solution was draining vital resource, with secretaries spending valuable time working through tapes to find specific dictations. Transcription efficiency was further hindered by the inherent poor sound quality of tapes.

Speaking about the benefits of the solution for Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, Rob said: “Secretaries can for the first time see on screen the volume, length and priority of dictations, which means they can organise their responsibilities much more effectively and efficiently.”

The decision to adopt the SRC WinScribe solution followed a rigorous evaluation process, which included reviewing solutions from four providers as part of a formal tender process. From the presentations and evaluation process the Trust unanimously selected SRC.

“A significant factor in choosing SRC as the provider was the proven track record of providing solutions in the health sector, and their understanding of the complexities of the Trust clinical administration environment” added Rob.

SRC provided project management, training and support services to ensure a smooth roll-out of the solution. The training sessions for authors and secretaries were customised by SRC to ensure end users were up to speed with the new solution and that timescales and early objectives could be met

Looking to the future, the Trust has already pinpointed additional services and solutions that can be seamlessly integrated with the SRC WinScribe solution to deliver further efficiency gains. Of interest to the Trust is interfacing the SRC Winscribe solution with the Trust’s PAS system, to automatically import demographic data directly into letter templates.

Chris Hart, CEO of SRC commented: “Dartford and Gravesham can expect to vastly improve efficiencies as they utilise the SRC WinScribe solution across the entire Trust. As part of our focus in the UK’s healthcare market, we are dedicated to ensuring that Trusts rapidly achieve substantial cost savings and productivity gains, which digital dictation and speech recognition technologies can deliver if deployed and supported appropriately. We are delighted to be working with Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust and look forward to developing our working partnership in the future.”

In addition to Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, the SRC WinScribe solution has been rolled out by numerous other NHS Trusts, including, The Dudley Group of Hospitals, Chesterfield Royal Hospital, East Sussex Hospitals, Poole Hospital, Homerton University Hospital, The Hammersmith Hospitals, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals and Royal West Sussex Hospitals.
